citizenM Opens Bowery Hotel in New York

On September 27th, the Bowery Branch of the citizenM hotel opened in New York. It is the world tallest modular hotel, and the 13th hotel in the citizenM branch. 

Since September 27th – citizenM bowery is officially open. With 300 rooms and a staggering 75m high, it becomes the tallest building in the neighbourhood and the world’s tallest modular hotel. Alongside a living room plaza and carefully curated art, the hotel introduces CoffeeM to the US, and is also topped with cloudM rooftop bar, offering 360 degrees of views over Manhattan. Based on a concept of ‘affordable luxury for the people’, citizenM is opening its US flagship hotel, the 13th member of the citizenM family within the culturally rich and vibrant Bowery area of downtown Manhattan.

Abandoning the traditional rules of hospitality, this expansion focuses on a clever mix of technology as well as art at every turn, celebrating its environment. Designed for locals and guests to ‘mix and mingle’, citizenM’s core attributes lie in the creation of hybrid and diverse spaces, inviting both work and play. citizenM Bowery also draws inspiration from the local community, the hotel’s interior is filled with an eclectic mix of contemporary art, photography, and objects curated by local artists.

At the front of the building is a public plaza with trees, benches and picnic tables, and an art wall drawing the guests towards the hotel. Inside, they will meet citizenM’s ambassadors, and get their key in just one minute at the self-checkin/check-out kiosk. A striking spiral staircase leads towards the living room on the lower ground floor, featuring doubleheight ceilings, bookshelves, and a 24/7 canteenM bar at the heart of it of it and coffeeM, the coffeebar at the entrance for guests and locals with coffee and pastries. Glass walls stream in plenty of daylight and open to a view of the park outside, mirrored inside with benches and picnic tables for the same fresh relaxed vibe as the public plaza.

CloudM is an expansive cloudM rooftop bar, outdoor terrace, and spectacular 360-degree views of New York. Occupying the entire 21st floor, cloudM features oak cabinets, Vitra chairs and couches, and custom chandeliers so large, they’ll catch the eye of pedestrians on the street (more images coming soon).
