April 27 at 8PM, music by Dutch/Swedish composer Klas Torstensson will be performed at the Miller Theatre at Colombia University in New York.

About the concert

Sweden’s Ensemble SON teams up with Miller favorites Either/Or to introduce to New Yorkers the Swedish-born, Netherlands-based composer Klas Torstensson. Championed by conductor Peter Eötvös, and celebrated at new music festivals in Huddersfield, Vienna, and Darmstadt, the composer has explored Nordic history and themes in works inspired by the polar seas and Arctic expeditions of yore. This program features recent chamber music works, including a new octet composed especially for Either/Or and Ensemble SON.

About Klas Torstensson

Torstensson studied composition at the Ingesunds Musikhögskola (Sweden), musicology at the University of Gothenburg, and electronic music at the Institute of Sonology, Utrecht. He was featured composer at festivals such as Stockholm New Music 1999 (together with Mauricio Kagel and György Kurtág), Time of Music 2001, (Finland), Montréal-Nouvelles-Musiques 2003, Baltic Sea Festival 2008, Sacrum Profanum 2009 (Krakow) and Båstad Kammarmusikfestival (Sweden) 2013.
